I have experienced amazing results with Kirsten. I have stopped trying to dance for the approval of my teachers and started dancing for myself and my enjoyment. I have started being open with teachers about what I want for my future so they can help me get there, instead of being scared of saying the wrong thing or being judged. I have also learned so many ways to calm my nerves before a performance and how to harness my adrenaline to be present onstage and deliver a beautiful performance consistently. These are only some of the amazing things I have accomplished throughout my sessions with Kirsten. From our first meeting to the last, I have seen a big change in both my dancing and my mentality! I loved my experience in The Confident Dancer Coaching Program, and I think so many others would as well!

Working with Kirsten allowed me to gain a new perspective on my emotions and struggles. It is unlike any counseling or coaching I have received before. Kirsten held me accountable and we worked as a team to come up with real actions I could take towards my goals. This program helped me to become a completely new dancer as I now have a more grounded approach to my training. There will always be struggles and difficult feelings and situations in the dance world but, now I am able to have skills I can use in situations where I feel overwhelmed, this gave me a new kind of confidence, not a proud or obnoxious kind but a steady and peaceful confidence having more distance between my own self doubt, and negativity and my goals. Having someone who understands dancers made a world of difference and allowed me to make changes that impacted not only my mental health as a person but also the way I take class, audition and perform as a dancer.

Before I discovered Kirsten on YouTube, I was plagued with fear of dance performance situations. Afraid to make a mistake. Afraid of what my performance would look like to others. Most of all, I was terrified that I would forget the choreography right in the middle of the routine. I was all "in my head" and not present to the music, or connected to my dance partner. Working with Kirsten was easy! She made the coaching sessions a safe space to discuss my real feelings. She has an amazing variety of resources and ideas. In a very short amount of time, my dance situation has turned around. I'm more confident and more present in my dancing. During a performance just a few weeks after starting coaching, I actually had the presence of mind to look over at the audience out of curiosity, to see what they were doing. Before Kirsten, I always tried to ignore the audience, and try to put them out of my mind. If you are a dancer in any genre, looking to improve confidence, or if you have my issue of being "in your head," I highly recommend mindset coaching with Kirsten. I can attest to the effectiveness of the program!

She listened so intently to every struggle I shared, and she always had a tool or piece of feedback that helped me see my issues in a new light. Of course, she’s a talented dancer, but what makes her a particularly amazing dance coach is her ability to unpack a mental block with her years of coaching knowledge. Dance is as much a mental sport as it is a physical one, so it’s been incredibly valuable to work with her. No matter how I was feeling, she created a non-judgmental and supportive environment that I felt safe to share in. I love that she’ll guide you through what you’re going through, but she’ll never tell you exactly what to do. I first stumbled upon Kirsten and many of her brilliant insights and helpful tips via Instagram while I was building up to a set of performances last season. I have been dancing professionally for over a decade, yet I have always struggled with so much self-doubt, anxiety around performances, imposter syndrome, and perfectionist tendencies, and so I found myself referring back to Kirsten's words again and again in my dressing room whenever I was feeling uncertain or needed a mini pep talk. I started to realize that no matter how much I loved dancing and the challenging work required to be a ballet dancer, I absolutely hated how anxious and stressed it made me every day and especially during performances and I did not want those feelings to define the rest of my career, so I DM’d Kirsten and she took me on as a client for one-on-one coaching. It was the best decision I could have made, not only for my career but for myself as a person beyond the pointe shoes and tutus. Kirsten is passionate, insightful, super knowledgeable and an absolute joy to work with. As a twin and dancer herself (among many other things), she was able to authentically connect with my struggles, motivators, and tendencies in our sessions together, and through that understanding provide thoughtful insight and guidance as well as numerous practical strategies for me to implement on a daily basis. Working with her for the past 4 months has absolutely helped shift my perspective on relentless work, my approach to my goals, and my experience with my mindset, and has enhanced my career for the better both on and off the stage.

Working with Kirsten was one of the best things I could have chosen to do for myself and for my career as a dancer. I had been following her for a while on Instagram and devouring all of her amazingly relatable ballet world content, but I kept telling myself that I was ‘too old to change my mindset, or that ‘I wouldn’t be able to see much benefit before I retired from ballet’. It wasn’t until I saw how much she helped my sister (a fellow professional dancer, and my twin) drastically improve her mindset with the Confident Dancer Coaching Program that I decided that I needed to work with her one on one myself. From the very first session Kirsten provides an open and completely judgement-free space for you to express your struggles and goals. Her personal experience as a dancer is absolutely invaluable, and she immediately makes you feel like you are not alone. Over the course of four months, she introduced me to so many new techniques and ways of thinking that I will definitely be using for the rest of my career and beyond. Before working with Kirsten, I was struggling with extremely low confidence, and self-worth, a lot of fear around failure and taking risks both in class and in rehearsals, a fair amount of performance anxiety and a huge dependence on external validation in order to feel successful in my work. Kirsten helped me uncover the true sources of my issues and provided me with simple yet highly effective tools to incorporate into my daily life that helped me shift towards a much healthier and sustainable mindset. I now feel like I have so much more autonomy over my life both inside and outside of the studio. Not only am I more confident, more capable of self-validating, and more willing take risks in my dancing, I have finally rediscovered my joy in performing and have subsequently had some of the most rewarding stage experiences of my career. I am so grateful for her coaching, and I truly believe that it is never too early or too late for any dancer to seek her professional guidance.

Throughout my time working with Kirsten, I have grown in my overall mindset in ways that I will always carry with me! Before working together, I struggled with confidence and believing in myself as a dancer all my life, now I don't even think that way anymore. I have overall grown to become more confident in myself as a dancer and as a person, even in my daily life. I really enjoyed our time together and there is nothing I would want to change about it! We were even able to work on my mindset around turning, and now I am actually much more confident in my turns and not as stressed as I used to be. Turns come more naturally to me now! For anyone who wishes they had more confidence, Kirsten Kemp is the lady who can help you find that confidence again! In addition to achieving all the goals I had for this program, Kirsten has helped me find my confidence again and, for that, I am forever grateful!

Going into the program, I was focused on my fixing my dance-related struggles such as comparison, perfectionism, and the hustle mentality. What I didn't expect was to not only experience change in those areas, but to feel changed at my core as a human. When Kirsten helped me shift my foundational beliefs and sense of identity to be healthier for me, the dancer-specific challenges seemed to just naturally fall into place. After working with Kirsten, I would no longer consider myself a perfectionist. I can do what matters to me most now and rest without feeling like I can never do enough or be enough. I don't even feel tempted to criticize my appearance in the mirror anymore. The sense of trust I have now feels amazingly freeing! Our work together was efficient and I felt so cared for throughout the process. I always looked forward to our sessions and have been continually recommending this experience to friends ever since!

Kirsten has a contagious energy of light and possibility that leaves me feeling re-inspired after every session. Her wealth of online resources, paired with the personal coaching that I did with her, provided a sense of direction during a time when I felt lost in my dance journey. Thank you, Kirsten!

Before going through The Confident Dancer Coaching Program, I was struggling a lot with my confidence and was constantly doubting myself, my body, and my technique. I was scared of doing the steps that I was weak at, and was at a crossroads with whether I should continue training at a school that was very unhealthy for me. With Kirsten’s support, I now feel more confident, optimistic, and able to celebrate my best efforts instead of focusing on perfection. I feel like I can approach difficult steps with less fear and more excitement. I doubt myself less, spend less time comparing myself to others, and feel more calm and focused as I dance than ever before.

I loved that every session was a perfect balance of fun and serious, and I felt really comfortable talking with Kirsten about things that are usually uncomfortable for me to talk about. Every session was so mind-opening, and I would highly recommend this support to other dancers!

Kirsten helped me so much with my mental health, especially because of her background as a former dancer. She made me realize that just because one person dislikes my dancing, doesn't mean everyone else does. She made me focus more on what I do have as a dancer rather than the qualities I don't have. Each question she asked me opened doors inside of me that I never knew that I had locked up. While my sessions were emotional because of the trauma that I have in my relationship with dance, she made me be able to appreciate myself again as a dancer and acknowledge how much I've endured.

Short answer: I fully welcome the inclusion of challenges and goals that are not explicitly dance-related!

Long answer: Given that my philosophy is that you are a whole person, not just a dancer, I believe it is very important to address aspects of your life that may be affecting your experience in the studio, even if the aspect of your life that you would like to discuss may not seem dance-related on the surface. I am a trained and certified Professional Life Coach and absolutely welcome discussions on topics outside of dance that, when addressed, can give you the opportunity to fully thrive as a person.

The default approach that I take is to offer coaching from a perspective that is religiously neutral and completely welcoming to those of any worldview.

That being said, if it is important to you to incorporate your faith into the coaching process, I am happy offer coaching from a Christian Biblical perspective upon request. Simply let me know during the consultation if you would like to incorporate your faith into our conversations.

For Parents of Dancers

Here are some helpful things to know if you are a parent who is interested in seeing if coaching will be a great fit for your dancer.

Though most dancers are quite receptive, if you have brought up coaching as an option and they feel a little embarrassed that they seem to need help, you can assure them that experiencing stress, self-doubt, performance anxiety, etc. is actually totally normal, even for professional dancers. Seeking support to help you overcome this is a very smart and proactive choice since these internal challenges can often hold dancers back from performing to their fullest potential for years. It can also be an assurance that I have danced professionally myself and have witnessed/experienced all of the challenges I help with in my coaching program firsthand.

If you want to encourage your dancer to pursue coaching, but you're not sure how to bring up the idea to them...

If your dancer is interested but feels embarrassed that they "need help"...

If you feel the need to join the consultation because you're worried your dancer won't share enough relevant information about themselves or their situation...

I do not meet with parents individually before the consultation with the dancer present...

What happens after the consultation?

When booking a free consultation, it is very important that your dancer fills out the application form for themselves so that I can best understand their personal take on the goals and challenges they would like help with. This is important to make sure that they want this support for themselves and not just because they were encouraged externally to do it. This will lead to a more effective coaching relationship if we end up working together.

Though most dancers prefer to speak with me individually in the initial consultation, if your dancer is young (especially under the age of 14), you are welcome to join the consultation as well as long as they are comfortable with you doing so. I will primarily be speaking with them throughout our conversation to gain an understanding of their personal challenges and share more about how my coaching process would work to help them, but you are absolutely welcome to observe and I will provide time towards the end for you to share any questions or things you may personally want me to know in order to best serve your dancer.

Know that I am always thorough in the initial consultation and subsequent coaching sessions to ask the questions needed to understand their needs and the context they are coming from to make sure I am serving them best and addressing their personal needs. As a coach, I am passionate about addressing each dancer as an individual and taking their training context, background, and holistic needs into account, whatever is relevant to our work together.

What is the age range for this program?

How much does the program cost?

If I am a dancer but currently injured, will the Confident Dancer Coaching Program be a good fit for me?

What if I am on the fence about continuing to dance at all or considering no longer pursuing dance professionally?

Do you help clients address challenges and goals in their regular life, or do all goals have to be dance-related to participate in this program?

Do you provide coaching from a secular or a faith-based perspective? Is there an option to choose?

Do I work with retired dancers or dancers transitioning away from or back into dancing?

Do I take insurance or HSA cards?

Do I provide an invoice to receive reimbursement for coaching from an organization you're a part of that provides those benefits such as a union?

Do I provide an invoice or W-9 if you would like to write coaching off as a business expense for tax purposes?

Short answer: I fully welcome the inclusion of challenges and goals that are not explicitly dance-related!

Long answer: Given that my philosophy is that you are a whole person, not just a dancer, I believe it is very important to address aspects of your life that may be affecting your experience in the studio, even if the aspect of your life that you would like to discuss may not seem dance-related on the surface. I am a trained and certified Professional Life Coach and absolutely welcome discussions on topics outside of dance that, when addressed, can give you the opportunity to fully thrive as a person.

If you feel that your dancer needs support but have not yet brought the possibility of coaching up to them, I highly recommend that you start by sharing my website with them and perhaps a few of my recent YouTube videos on topics you think may resonate with them so that they can be introduced to who I am and my coaching services.

What happens after the consultation?

Know that I am always thorough in the initial consultation and subsequent coaching sessions to ask the questions needed to understand their needs and the context they are coming from to make sure I am serving them best and addressing their personal needs. As a coach, I am passionate about addressing each dancer as an individual and taking their training context, background, and holistic needs into account, whatever is relevant to our work together.

What happens after the consultation?

Please note that I do not meet with parents individually before consultations with the dancer present. All pertinent information that you may need to know prior to booking a consultation can be found on my website. If any questions remain, they can be addressed in the consultation or after the consultation via email or a brief phone call if you are not able to be present.
