When the uncertainty of your future overwhelms you, how worthy do you feel of rest? ⁣ ⁣ As dancers, we often live in the tension of feeling like it’s our duty to do everything in our power to control our outcomes, while also feeling like our fate is ultimately in the hands of a director or teacher we hope and pray will like us enough to make our dreams come true. ⁣ ⁣ I don’t know about you, but when I have been caught in that tension, I feel like I’m not aloud to rest! ⁣ ⁣ Like every waking moment MUST be devoted to becoming a better dancer or I might fail and feel such guilt over the handful of times I just let myself be. Not do, not hustle, not accomplish... just be. ⁣ ⁣ Comment below if you’ve been there or are in that mental state now!⁣ ⁣ Coming from the girl who would do computer work while “watching a movie” and workout on my days off - I totally empathize with that struggle!⁣ ⁣ But thank God, I’ve learned a few things on my road to full work-a-holic recovery, and I want to share them with you 🤓⁣ ⁣ Giving yourself space to be restored in body, mind, and spirit is what will allow you to come in to the studio on a Monday, refreshed and fueled by your passion. ⁣ ⁣ Resting is what allows you to be present - With yourself, with God, with family, with friends, in your work environment, etc. ⁣ ⁣ When you are present, you aren’t focused on the things outside of your control (the past or future). You become much more available to solutions, creativity, opportunities, and all that you can use to live a more powerful and effective life. ⁣ ⁣ Resting isn’t laziness, it isn’t complacency, and it certainly isn’t for the weak. Rather it is for the wise.⁣ ⁣ Resting is giving yourself space to step back into the bigger picture, and re-enter your daily grind with more intention, perspective, and energy 💫⁣ ⁣ When you gain that mindset through rest, your fears about the future start to seem more like background noise than ultimate truth. ⁣ ⁣ So rest. You’re worth it. 🌟

To the dancer at rock bottom, who can’t possibly imagine a way out: ⁣ ⁣ I was there too. ⁣ ⁣ I want you to know that this post is from my heart - not to brag, and sure as heck not to preach from an unrelatable mountaintop. This is for you who just needs to know that the only world you’ve known might be ending, but when one ends another you didn’t even know you wanted begins. ⁣ ⁣ Getting injured or rejected from every company or school you auditioned for IS painful. I won’t even play with the common phrase, “might be”. ⁣ ⁣ You will probably shake your fist to the sky and say “This was supposed to work because I don’t have anything else. I did my best, so why do I live in a world where that’s not enough!?” ⁣ ⁣ That was me. But you know what I didn’t know then? ⁣ ⁣ That God had so much more for me than what previously fit into my narrow definition of a good, successful life. ⁣ ⁣ But I’m not special! There is more for you too. ⁣ ⁣ I have to be honest with you though...⁣ ⁣ You CANNOT sit and wait for your life’s calling to become crystal clear to take action. The way life works in that you get to take ONE step at a time, and while you take that one step, you probably only get to see 3-4 up ahead of you.⁣ ⁣ We often want to wait for the WHOLE freakin staircase to be revealed, but do you even realize what would happen if it were revealed to you?⁣ ⁣ You would get overwhelmed and stop before you even started! ⁣ (Come on, you know it’s true 😊)⁣ ⁣ So have faith in that one next step. That still small voice. That “well maybe I could do this” idea (just stop yourself before you say BUT). ⁣ ⁣ Try and fail. Then try and fail some more. You can handle it, I promise. You will get more answers seeing what DOESN’T work than what DOES.⁣ ⁣ Is this post aimed right at your little heart? ⁣ ⁣ I WISH I were you 2 years ago, because you actually have the help you need at your fingertips! I can help you define your next steps within just one conversation - no matter how confused you feel right now. In several more conversations, I will give you the tools and confidence to actually bring the goals you set to life. Help yourself, and don’t do this alone. Click the link in my bio to apply f

Insecurities give people who want control over you a foothold. ⁣ ⁣ Give yourself respect and you won’t give them that pleasure. ⁣ ⁣ I have been that dancer who was emotionally, mentally, and physically broken down to almost nothing by teachers who seemed to only know how to motivate me with shame, fear, and emotional manipulation. ⁣ ⁣ Looking back all these years later, I don’t label them as awful or evil. I choose to believe that they just didn’t know a better way to influence me. ⁣ ⁣ Now I coach many dancers who are looking to rebuild their confidence and piece back together their sense of self after an experience with a teacher who used shame and fear to motivate them.⁣ ⁣ What I learned later on in my journey as a dancer is that you can go into the studio, do your thing, and simply decide to not be available to absorb the entirety of their comments at face value. ⁣ ⁣ You have to put harsh comments through a filter. Pick out the constructive criticism that came packaged in their negative belief that subordinates need to be controlled in order to get results. ⁣ ⁣ The second thing is that shame-based leaders, the once who want control instead of healthy influence, can usually sniff out your insecurities from a mile away. ⁣ ⁣ People who want control love people with insecurities and a low level of conviction or trust in themselves because they can so easily play into those weak points to get power. ⁣ ⁣ So remember that you have permission to trust yourself. ⁣ ⁣ You have permission to use a filter when hearing their comments. ⁣ ⁣ You have permission to show up and dance without letting people tell how you should feel about yourself. ⁣ ⁣ You have permission to stand out and let the people see the 5% of you that still needs work so they can appreciate the 95% that’s awesome.⁣ ⁣ Tag a friend who would love to hear this message today ❤️👯‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #twintalksballet #worldwideballet #ballerinasofinstagram #masteryourmindset #coachingfordancers #ballettraining #balletinspiration #professionaldancers #ballerinaproject_ #dancers_and_dance #balletspirit #ballet_soul #pointeshoes #balletphoto #dancersofig⁣ #balletlovers #balletdancers #adultballet #ballerinasofig #igdancers

Want to know the 🗝 to releasing negative energy from discouraging thoughts or situations? ⁣ ⁣ You know, the kind of thoughts that feel like someone let a dark cloud into the studio and it’s hovering over your head at all times. The ones that come back every day no matter how many positive mantras you throw at them. 🙄⁣ ⁣ Well here's the secret...⁣ ⁣ Observe what you're specifically upset about, then ask yourself, "What is the story I'm telling myself about this?" Or in other words, "What is my interpretation of what's happening right now and how is that connected to my feelings?" 🤔⁣ ⁣ Maybe you are upset about the way you look in the mirror. Is it because there is legitimately something "wrong" with you, or are you telling yourself that you'll never have a future in dance if you continue to look the way you do? That moment isn't just about the shape of your body, it became a reflection of what you believe about yourself and what is possible. ⁣ ⁣ Maybe you have a pain in your ankle, and understandably, you mutter the oh so common phrase, "today is going to be rough" before the day hardly started... Maybe the first few exercises of class won't feel as easy as you'd like, but does the whole day deserve to be tossed out like that? 🤷‍♀️⁣ ⁣ The point of this is NOT to suggest that there is necessarily a right or a wrong way to think. In fact, removing black and white judgments like that from your life can be one of the most freeing things you'll ever do!⁣ ⁣ However, there are more helpful and less helpful ways of INTERPRETING your experience according to your personal goals.⁣ ⁣ I want to emphasize the term "interpreting" because that's what we are all doing all the time - we are making interpretations out of what we see and experience, and often falling into the trap of believing our interpretation is absolute truth. ⁣ ⁣ So, step 1: Becoming an observer of your thoughts will already take the sting out of what you're feeling! You could even stop there and feel some benefits. ⁣ ⁣ But here's step 2: Challenge your interpretation or story that your mind has generated about your experience and either release it or choose one that supports you. 🌟⁣ ⁣
